Research Overview

At Phononlab, we explore light-matter interactions through the lens of nonlinear optics. We study the effect of nonlinear optical phenomena in microresonators, nanowires, and waveguides compatible with standard fiber optics platforms. We also study the interaction of light and radio or microwaves and explore their physics to contribute to the field of communications.

Microresonator Brillouin laser and multi-Stokes generation at 2 µ m

A low threshold, tunable, stable narrow-linewidth 2 um Brillouin laser and cascaded higher-order Stokes lasers were demonstrated in a silica microsphere platform. This work may find applications in optical communications, soliton combs, and atmospheric sensing in the 2-um wavelength region.
